This young, pleasant actress was under contract to MGM during the war years. Dorothy Morris was groomed by the studio starting in 1941 and for the first couple of years barely earned a screen credit. She rose gradually in the ranks to secondary ingenue roles as the daughter or friend of the star. She was pretty, delicate-looking and fairly demure along the lines of a Barbara Bates or Cathy O'Donnell, and was probably best featured in such films as Someone to Remember (1943), The Human Comedy (1943), Rationing (1944), and None Shall Escape (1944). Dorothy willingly gave up her modest career when she married a math instructor in 1943. The marriage, which produced two sons, lasted 23 years before it ended. She returned to her acting craft in the late 50s and appeared in minor roles on TV, as well as two films Macabre (1958), the William Castle 'shocker' and Seconds (1966) starring Rock Hudson. A second marriage to a minister took her, again, away from the camera lights and this time it was permanent, save for some amateur theatricals. Her sister, Caren Marsh, was an MGM dancer who also was Judy Garland's frequent stand-in.

A talented girl whose comedic gifts were never sufficiently tapped into by Hollywood, Dorothy nevertheless secured a dedicated fan base merely on her sunny smile, creamy good looks and carefree radiance alone. Graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in Theater Arts. Hollywood folklore has it that the South Dakota-born (but raised in San Francisco) actress landed the role of the notorious femme bank robber in the low-budget "B" film The Bonnie Parker Story (1958) just three days after arriving in Hollywood. (1965); had a slam-bang cameo as Lily Olay the barroom singer who belts out the memorable "He Shouldn't-A, Hadn't-A, Oughtn't-A Swang on Me" in the slapstick farce The Great Race (1965); showed up as the true-blue gal pining for Jim Hutton in the bank heist comedy Who's Minding the Mint? (1967); and made her last silver screen appearance alongside Dick Van Dyke in the comedy Never a Dull Moment (1968), which did not live up to its title. During this time Dorothy occasionally made use of her vocal talents on the live stage, and appeared briefly as a duo with George Burns in a 1963 Las Vegas nightclub act, replacing Burns' ailing wife Gracie Allen, who by this time had fully retired due to serious heart problems. Eventually, however, she lost interest in her career. Dorothy abruptly left the business in 1969 after marrying director Robert Day, who was involved in several of the Tarzan movies. She showed up a couple of times on TV in the 70s but, for the most part, found her self-imposed retirement completely to her liking. The couple moved permanently to Bainbridge Island, Washington in 1981, and there she found contentment simply gardening and tending to her animals. As a result, Dorothy found herself leaning towards a career in music, finding work as a chorine and nightclub dancer in her teens. She broke into films at age 17 with Life's Greatest Question (1921), billed then as Doris Velegra. The film's storyline was written by first husband Harry Revier, a sometime director and producer. He also directed Dorothy in her next film The Broadway Madonna (1922), wherein she changed her stage moniker to reflect her married status. As Dorothy Revier, she proved a tempting blonde who specialized in femme fatale types, but inexplicably never hit top-flight stardom during her silent film reign. Typical alluring titles included Dangerous Pleasure (1924), The Fate of a Flirt (1925), The Siren (1927) and The Tigress (1927). A former 'Wampas Baby Star,' Dorothy's most notable effort was as the scheming beauty Milady de Winter in 'Douglas Fairbanks Sr'' The Iron Mask (1929). She was able to make the transition to sound pictures comfortably enough but moved almost exclusively into "B"-level fare, eventually earning the dubious title "Queen of Poverty Row" working for inhabitants of Gower Gulch. Dorothy retired from films after co-starring in the Buck Jones' western The Cowboy and the Kid (1936), and turned to writing and painting. Divorced from Revier in 1926, she later married commercial artist William Pelayo. She died of natural causes in 1993.
